In The World, Not Of It
Dear Leesburg Christian Church Family,
I hope you left yesterday different than when you came. It was a blessing to gather together and explore what it truly means to serve the world as followers of Christ. We delved into John 17, where Jesus prays for His disciples, highlighting the need for protection and unity as we navigate being in the world but not of it. We discussed how our service should be a reflection of our identity in Christ, not just a checklist of tasks. We are called to be salt and light, preserving truth and illuminating the darkness with the transformative power of the Gospel.
As you reflect on the message, consider these introspective questions: How can you be more intentional in serving others this week, reflecting the selflessness of Christ? In what ways can you ensure that your life is distinct from the world, shining as a light in your community? How can you foster unity within our church family, rooted in our shared commitment to Christ?
Our memory verse for the week is Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV): "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
This week, I challenge you to engage with someone outside of your usual circle—perhaps a neighbor, coworker, or someone you encounter in your daily routine. Share a kind word, offer help, or simply listen. Let your actions reflect the love and truth of Christ, serving as a beacon of hope and encouragement.
Remember, our journey of faith is not one we walk alone. We have the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us, and we have each other for support and encouragement. Let us continue to be a community that lives out our core value of serving the world, united in our mission to share the Gospel.
Thank you for being a part of our church family. I look forward to seeing how God will work through each of us this week.
Blessings,
Jon Welch
