Walking In the Light Of Truth

Jun 16, 2024    Jon Welch

This past Sunday, we gathered to explore John 8, where Jesus boldly declared, "I am the light of the world." We delved into the rich symbolism of the Festival of Booths, where the lighting of the great candlesticks reminded the Israelites of God's presence, protection, and guidance. In this context, Jesus' statement calls us to follow Him and walk in His light, transforming our lives.

Here are a few highlights from the sermon:

Jesus as the light of the world offers us peace, comfort, and guidance in a dark and broken world.

Following Jesus means not just knowing about the light but actively walking in it, which transforms us both positionally and inwardly.

The sin of unbelief can lead to many other sins, but trusting in Jesus brings us into His marvelous light.

As we reflect on this message, I encourage you to ponder these introspective questions:

1. Are there areas in your life where you are still walking in darkness? How can you surrender these to Jesus?

2. In what ways can you live a distinct life that reflects the light of Christ to those around you?

3. How does trusting in Jesus' light change your perspective on the challenges you face daily?

Our memory verse for this week is John 8:12 (ESV): "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

Application Challenge: This week, take a moment each day to identify one area of your life where you can more fully follow Jesus' light. Whether it's through prayer, reading Scripture, or an act of kindness, let His light guide your actions and decisions. Share your experiences with a friend or family member to encourage one another in walking in the light.

Let's continue to seek His light and reflect it in our daily lives. May we be a beacon of hope and love in a world that desperately needs it.
